About The Book
Flowers Drink the River spans the first two years of Pia’s gender transition, as she photographs her small community in rural Maine, and the beauty and terror of living as a trans woman in a small right-wing town. Scenes of moths and floating spider silk, mud-drenched bodies intertwining, a burning house, girlfriends pissing on each other from tree branches, nocturnal animals, and euphoric rituals adorn flash-soaked landscapes.

About The Artist
Pia-Paulina Guilmoth lives and makes art in rural central Maine. Pia is a working class transgender woman who lives with her girlfriend and two cats in a small tree-house-like space inside of a very old shoe factory on the bank of the Sandy River. Pia’s work is foremost about harnessing beauty as a form of resistance to a world full of terrors. While making art she is thinking about class, gender, euphoria, dysphoria and whatever else is happening in her life at that given moment.
